150 birds rescued in Ctg, 11 peddlers detained

A mobile court of Chattogram district administration rescued 150 captive birds from Reazuddin Bazar area in the port city on Wednesday evening.

Tahmilur Rahman, executive magistrate at Chattogram district administration, conducted the drive with the help of Rapid Action Battalion.

The recovered birds include Red Breasted Parakeet, Rose Ringed Parakeet, Plum Headed Parakeet, Hill Myna, and Crow.

The birds were brought in the market in separate cages from different parts of the country for sale.

“During the drive, we have recused the birds from different peddlers, who came from different parts of the country for selling these birds,” said Tahmilur.

The court detained 11 people during the drive, sentencing them to one month’s imprisonment with charges of illegal selling of wild birds.
