15 vehicles fined Tk4,500 for honking in Secretariat area

Fifteen vehicles were fined a total of Tk4,500 for honking in the surrounding areas of the Secretariat on Thursday. 

A mobile court led by Kazi Tamjid Ahmed, executive magistrate of the Department of Environment, fined the vehicles. 

Vehicle of a deputy secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration is among the list of the vehicles being fined. 

From December 17 onwards, the surrounding areas of the Secretariat came under 'Silent Zone' or 'No Horn Zone'.

According to the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act 1995, if anyone violates this ban, the offender will get maximum one month's imprisonment or a fine maximum of Tk5,000 or both awards for the first time violation.

The punishment can be extended with a maximum six months' imprisonment or fine maximum Tk10,000 or both awards for recapitulating the same offence.
