13 DU students identified with Dengue

At least thirteen students of Dhaka University (DU) have been identified with the dengue virus whereas about two hundred students have been suffering from fever.
Dr Sarwar Jahan, chief medical officer of DU Medical Centre, confirmed it on Thursday.
“On Wednesday, we tested blood samples of 168 students who have been suffering from fever. Among them, thirteen are affected by the dengue virus,” Dr Sarwar told The Business Standard on Thursday.
He said as DU bought dengue identification devices, it is capable to conduct all the tests related to the dengue virus.
“We can test at least 150 patients a day. However, on the first day, we tested 168 patients due to excessive pressure,” he said.
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman told this correspondent the DU authority was prepared to handle the dengue problem.
“We are very sincere about dengue injections and will provide the required treatment to all the infected students and teachers.”
He rejected the demand of general students and Dhaka University Central Students’ Union for closing the university to avoid dengue infection.
“We are ready to fight against dengue in the campus, and we have already made everything clean,” he added.
