Sitakunda fire: 11 admitted to Burn Institute, 1 to Dhaka Medical

Victims of the awful fire incident at the private BM Container Depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda on Saturday, 11 people have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and one has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Dr Hossain Imam, assistant director of the burn institute, told The Business Standard that injured Sub-inspector Kamrul Hasan, Container Depot Security Manager AKS Macfarul and Security Admin Khaledul Rahman were admitted to the institute on Sunday morning. Kamrul sustained a 4% burn injury while the rest had 12% of their bodies burnt.

Later in the afternoon, Moinul Haque Chowdhury, import shift in charge of the depot, was admitted to the institute with a 16% burn injury.

In the afternoon, another victim named Amin was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Later, after 7.30 pm, seven more people were brought to Dhaka by an army helicopter from Chattogram and admitted to the burn institute.

Meanwhile, Awami League praesidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanok and joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim visited the injured at the burn institute on Monday.

After visiting the victims, he told reporters that the prime minister has been in constant touch with Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery since the incident occurred. She has also directed all concerned to provide necessary treatment and other help to the victims.

Health Minister Zahid Malek on Sunday also expressed grief over the blast and said Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery is ready to treat the injured.

A team of specialist doctors to go to Chattogram on Monday

A team of experts led by Dr Samanta Lal Sen is scheduled to leave for Chattogram on Monday morning to treat the victims of the horrific blast at Sitakunda.

The other two members of the expert team are Dr Hedayet Ali Khan and Dr Hossain Imam.
