10 trafficked women return after 2yr jail-term in India 

Ten Bangladeshi women, who were allegedly trafficked to India, have returned after serving a two-year prison sentence there. 

The Indian police handed them over to the Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police on Friday evening. 

The women are from different villages in Narail, Jessore, Satkhira, Barisal and Pirojpur. Traffickers lured them with the hope of better jobs in India. 

Benapole Immigration Police Acting Officer Mohsin Hossain said Indian police had arrested the women who were working illegally as domestic workers in different places. 

The arrestees were later sent to prison. 

"After two years of imprisonment, the women contacted the home ministries of both countries so that they could return to their motherland," said Mohsin. 

Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mamun Khan said the necessary documents were handed over to the human rights organisation "Rights Jessore" as part of bringing the women back.

Rights Jessore Coordinator Taufikuzzaman said the returnees would be kept in a shelter after completing the formalities of Benapole Port Police Station. 

"We will contact their families and then hand them over," he said.

"Legal assistance will also be provided to the returnees if they want to file a case against the traffickers," he added.
