10 injured in factional clash of Bogura motor owners

At least 10 people, including policeman, have been injured in a factional clash between two groups of Bogra District Motor Owners Association over establishing supremacy.

The clash took place at Charmatha bus stand in Bogura around 12pm on Tuesday.

During the clash, at least 10 motorcycles were set on fire. The office of the District Motor Owner Association was also burnt down alongside the office of Shah Fahet Ali Bus service. Two of the 10 injured sustained bullet-wounds.

Vehicular movement on the Rangpur-Bogra highway was suspended from 12pm to 1pm due to the clash.

Later police charged batons and brought the situation under control around 1pm.

There has been a dispute between two groups of the Awami League over controlling the association for the last three years.

One of the groups is led by Manjurul Alam Mohan, joint secretary of the district Awami League and former convener of the Bogura District Motor Owners Association. Another group is active under former Bogra Municipality Panel Mayor and Awami League leader Aminul Islam.

According to the local sources, an election held three years ago saw Akteruzzaman Duke as the president and Aminul Islam as the general secretary of Bogura District Motor Owners Association.

Manjurul Alam Mohan has been claiming that election and results are illegal.
