Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has terminated some 10 police personnel and suspended more 18 cops as they turned out positive in dope tests recently.

Walid Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (media wing) of the DMP, confirmed the information to The Business Standard.

A total of 68 police personnel of the unit were found positive in dope tests. Departmental cases have been filed against 43 of them while the process of departmental action is underway against 25 policemen, he said.

Among the dope positive policemen, there are seven sub-inspectors, five assistant sub-inspectors, five nayeks, 50 constables and one traffic sergeant.

The allegations brought against them include – drug trading, drug consuming, implicating people with drugs, and taking bribe to show lesser amount of recovered drugs.

DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has repeatedly expressed firm stance against those police personnel who take drugs or involved in drug related issues.

On September 26, he, at a function in Mirpur of the capital, said that the action against the police personnel is being taken to deliver a clear message that no people involved in drugs will be spared.
