1 dead, 2 injured in Narayanganj lift collapse

A man died and two others were injured in a lift collapse at Vulta of Narayanganj's Rupganj on Monday evening.

The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 40. He hailed from Gopalganj area of Sunamganj in Sylhet.

Inspector Bacchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College police outpost, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"The three men were on the lift of Fakir Fashion Garment factory on Monday evening when it collapsed, leaving Shahidul seriously injured," said Mahmudul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station.

"He was declared dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College," he added.

The two injured men were sent to a local hospital.

Deputy Managing Director of Fakir Garment Fashion, Riyad Zaman, was not available for comment as his phone was found switched off. 

OC Mahmudul said police would look further into the matter to find out if this was an accident or foul play.  

"If someone files a complaint, we will investigate," he added.
