1 child killed, three sustain burns in gas line explosion

One child was killed and his father, mother and sister sustained burn injuries as a gas pipeline of a road blasted at Bongshal's Kosaituli area in old Dhaka today.

The deceased is Moinul, 3.

The Injured are Moinul's father Jabed Hossain, 30, mother Shiuli Akhter, 25 and sister Jannatul Islam, 4.

They were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Somoy TV reported.

Sub-Inspector of Bongshal Police Station Md Edris Ali said, "A gas pipe line on the side of the road blasted at around 8:15 am. The partial wall of a house collapsed during the incident. The three residents of the house sustained burn injuries and one was killed. All of them are from the same family."

"I heard from the local people that the gas line was repaired on the road yesterday. Someone may have smoked a cigarette and dropped it there. This caused the gas line to explode. We are trying to find out more detail," he added.

The institute's Chief Coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen said, "Three burnt people have been admitted here. All of them are in critical condition."
