Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former charismatic captain of Indian cricket team called time on his career on August 15. Despite being an opponent, the likes of Imrul Kayes, Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Nurul Hasan Sohan have learnt a lot from him.
The Business Standard caught up with some of the cricketers who spoke about their experience playing against the great man.
He led a team like team India with distinction for so many years. He has the quality to remain cool and calm in any situation. I met and spoke to him several times. It's saddening to hear but all has to retire one day.
He is a great inspiration to the young generation. As a fan, I'll miss MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni is one of my favourite cricketers. He is certainly the best. I may not have played much against him. But safe to say, I haven't seen a cricketer as intelligent as him. The way he planned and executed them was excellent.
He was a cool customer and true gentleman. Player of his stature is born once in a hundred years. World cricket will definitely miss him.
Undoubtedly Dhoni is the greatest captain, leader and finisher. He led India to three ICC global event wins. When I watched Dhoni instructing Joginder Sharma during the final of 2007 World T20 on TV, I was fascinated. I have been a fan since then.
As a fan, I want to say that Dhoni deserved a better farewell. But everyone has to retire. But India will miss MS Dhoni without a doubt.
Nurul Hasan Sohan
I hoped that Dhoni would play for some more time. He has revolutionised batting, but I want to talk about his keeping as well. I spoke to him once about it. He stressed about comfort zone, rather than basic keeping. Because in Asia we have to keep to spinners. So the way it is taught in England and Australia won't work here. I always looked to follow the basic keeping rules but he changed it altogether, inspiring us to improve our skills keeping in mind our comfort zone.
Obviously I will miss Dhoni. There is a lot to learn from him. Dhoni has taken cricket to another level. The world won't have another captain, finisher and wicketkeeper like him.
