Taijul working on ‘Mystery delivery’ after reinventing himself
Taijul wants to play for Bangladesh in all formats and that is why he is on a mission to reinvent himself. He has already changed his bowling action and is working on a special mysterious delivery.
Taijul Islam has been tagged as a Test bowler in Bangladesh since his debut. But just like his Test skipper Mominul Haque, Taijul disapproves of this tag of Test specialist.
Taijul wants to play for Bangladesh in all formats and that is why he is on a mission to reinvent himself. He has already changed his bowling action and is working on a special mysterious delivery.
The Business Standard (TBS) caught up with Taijul after he completed his individual training stint at Mirpur on Tuesday.
"I am changing myself to play in all three formats. I have brought some changes to my bowling and also I am working on a special delivery," Taijul told TBS.
Taijul believes that it will not take him long to acquire this new delivery. But he also wanted it to remain a secret until he has learnt it completely.
"I hope that it will not take me very long. But for now, let it stay a secret. I will let everyone know when I will learn the delivery completely," said Taijul.
Nobody advised Taijul to change, rather he did it by himself to try something new. He said, "I was trying to bring some change to my bowling action. Then I saw that I was bowling well with the new action. I talked to Daniel Vettori about the new bowling action videos and after his positive comments, I have been working on it."
Taijul's inspiration came from the hunger to do well in every condition.
"We have to do well in every condition. The conditions at home and away are different. I am getting a lot of variations because of the new action. And if you have a diverse arsenal, you can do well in all conditions. I have taken the decision considering everything. To be honest, what worked on my mind is getting success across all three formats in every condition," the left-arm spinner explained.
A long break often breaks the rhythm for cricketers but Taijul is not facing much difficulty. He said, "It will be a little difficult for the first few days after a long break. Despite that, I am bowling well. I am having a lot of options in my hand after changing my action."
Bangladesh are set to play three Tests against Sri Lanka in October. Taijul has said that it will be difficult to play Tests after such a long break.
"It is difficult to play Tests after such a long break. Adding to that, there are many problems because of the pandemic. We have to accept this and take our preparation in the right way. The series will be as difficult for Sri Lanka as it will be for us," said Taijul.
