The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is going to organise a T20 tournament later this month after a successful BCB President's Cup in October. The tournament is named as Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Around 160 players have been listed for drafts in four categories.
The listed players started appearing for mandatory fitness tests from today, which they will have to pass to take part in the tournament. Among the 80 players today, Sohag Gazi and Avishek Mitra failed in to score the pass mark of 11.
Avishek Mitra, the right-handed batsman from Rajshahi told The Business Standard (TBS) that he had a score of 10.8 and missed by a slight margin. "I took 10-days off for Durga Pooja last month and had just one training session after that. I'm returning to Rajshahi after appearing the test and just heard the news. I will train for a few days, and hopefully will score more than 11 when the next test comes," said a hopeful Avishek.
Avishek also told TBS that he never missed the score of 11 before, this is the first time for him to fail in a fitness test.
Sohag Gazi, however, was unreachable.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan also appeared for the test at Mirpur today. Ex-ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza skipped this phase of fitness test as he thinks he is not yet ready.
