The whole of Bangladesh is celebrating the 101st birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangladesh national team ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan paid their tribute by terming him as the greatest person who still keeps inspiring millions.
"We are remembering Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with profound respect on the occasion of his birthday. He always dreamt that Bangladesh would be recognised to the whole world through sports one day. I would like to congratulate and send good wishes to all the sportsperson in Bangladesh on such an auspicious occasion," Tamim said through a video message on Facebook.
"Our entire nation leans upon your bold shoulders. No matter what our social background is, we all strive to be the best version of ourselves. Your vision has paved the way for us to strive for more and excel," Shakib Al Hasan wrote on his verified Facebook page.
"Your goals are our goal – to take pride in our country and flag. We pay our respects to our beloved Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 101st birthday," he said.
Bangladesh are currently in New Zealand and will face the hosts in the first of the three-match ODI series in Dunedin on March 20.
