Shakib eyes nothing but win against Afghanistan
Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in a solitary test match next month.
Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan has said that he is looking forward to winning the solitary Test against Afghanistan which is set to commence on September 5 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
“Every team gets into the field to win the game whether they are a big team or not. When a team takes to the field, they don’t concentrate on creating or testing new players. At the end of the day, winning is the main target for every team. Our only target is to win games. To do that, if we need to include new players, we’ll do that,” Shakib said.
He was talking to reporters at Le Méridien Dhaka on Sunday night for the first time after coming back from the well-deserved lay-off.
Bangladesh cricket team are now preparing themselves under the newly-appointed coach Russell Domingo. With the lone Test against Afghanistan, the Tigers will begin their new home season.
Shakib thinks that the match will be very challenging for Bangladesh as the Afghans have done well in white-ball cricket and they are capable enough to do the same in red-ball cricket as well.
“In international cricket, every match is challenging. Afghanistan are a very tough opponent for us as they have improved vastly over the last few years. They have some quality players who can be dangerous for us. We have to perform as a team to register a win against them,” he added.
“Rashid Khan is a world-class bowler although he has only played two Test matches. But we can’t deny the fact that he is a proven bowler. He has had remarkable success in white-ball cricket,” Shakib further added.
