Shakib double blow gives Bangladesh hope
Shakib struck twice in the first over to give Bangladesh a slimmer of hope.
Bangladesh are trailing by 193 runs against Afghanistan at lunch on the third day. Bangladesh were all out for 205 in the morning, and Afghanistan in their second innings are on 56-3.
Earlier in the match, Afghanistan scored 342 in their first innings with a hundred from Rahmat Shah and fifties from Asghar Afghan and Rashid Khan.
Bangladesh started the day on 194/8 after Mosaddek Hossain and Taijul Islam showed great resilience at the end of day two. But it took Mohammad Nabi only three deliveries to break the partnership as he knocked off Taijul’s stumps. Nayeem provided Mosaddek some help during his brief stay but was undone by a Rashid Khan googly as Mosaddek was left unbeaten at 48. Rashid picked up five wickets as Nabi picked up three.
Bangladesh had a good start in the Afghan second innings as skipper Shakib Al Hasan struck twice in the very first over of the innings to reduce the Afghans to 4-2. The brief 24-run stand between Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi was broken by Nayeem as Shahidi was caught brilliantly at first slip by Soumya Sarkar. But Asghar Afghan and Ibrahim ensured that they went into lunch without losing any more wickets.
