After former sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had alleged that the 2011 ICC World Cup final was fixed, sports ministry of Sri Lanka set up a special investigation unit to look into the matter.
As part of the investigation, former cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene have been asked to appear before the special unit. Sangakkara led Sri Lanka in that tournament with Jayawardene being his deputy where India beat them in the final in Mumbai.
Earlier, former Lankan captain and selector Aravinda de Silva was questioned for six hours in Colombo. After him, Upul Tharanga was also summoned to appear for investigation.
