Cricketer Nasir Hossain today said that he would take legal action if anyone tries to insult his wife Tamima Hossain by any fake news or social media posts.
Few days after controversy began over their marriage, Nasir Hossain and his wife talked to the media in a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon at capital's Banani.
"We got married following all legal procedures, religious etiquettes and after informing all," Nasir said.
Mentioning that they did everything legally, Nasir warned, "Those who are defaming Tamima by online news or social media posts, I will take legal action against them as she is now my wife- Tamima Hossain."
Tamima claimed that she divorced her previous husband Rakib Hasan and then married Nasir.
"But Rakib is spreading false information now. All knew that I and Nasir are getting married. I don't know what happened to Rakib after I got engaged with Nasir," said Tamima.
Nasir further urged all to refrain from spreading misinformation and rumour centring his wife. Especially, he requested media outlets to be more responsible and circulate authentic information.
Three lawyers - Barrister Asid Bin Anwar, Barrister Mayeesha Islam and Md Fakhruddin Bhuiyan - who are extending legal supports to the newlywed couple were present at the press briefing.
Earlier on the day, Rakib filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim. He claimed that Tamima Sultana did not divorce him before marrying Nasir.
But Nasir Hossain and his lawyers categorically stated that Tamima sent divorce notice in December, 2016 complying with all the legal procedures, that came into effect in January, 2017.
The reporters were provided with a handout along with copies of marriage certificate and divorce paper of Tamima and Rakib. According to the documents, Rakib and Tamima got married in 2011 and parted their ways in 2016.
However, the court took Rakib's lawsuit to its cognisance and asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to look into it.
