Chattogram Challengers will take on Sylhet Thunder in the opening match of the new-look Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League on December 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Bangabandhu BPL to be held in five phases

This year there will be a special edition of Bangladesh's showpiece domestic T20 tournament Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This year's edition will be called, Bangabandhu BPL, in memory of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman.  

The tournament kicks off on December 11, with an opening day ceremony set to take place on December 8. The final of the seven franchise tournament will be held on January 17 with a reserve day on hand.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday announced the itinerary of the seven-team league. On the second day (Nov 12), Dhaka Platoon will play Rajshahi Royals in the first match at 12:30 pm while Khulna Tigers will encounter Chattogram Challengers in the evening match at 5:20 pm at the same venue.

Seven teams -- Chattogram Challengers, Cumilla Warriors, Dhaka Platoon, Khulna Tigers, Rajshahi Royals, Rangpur Rangers and Sylhet Thunder -- will complete in the five-week-long double-league basis competition.  

The venues will remain the same as last year as matches will be played in Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet.

The tournament will in Dhaka. Second phase will take place in Chattogram from December 17 to December 24. Then the matches will return to Dhaka for the fourth phase, which continues from December 27 to December 31.

Sylhet will host the fifth phase of BPL. Sylhet round will start on January 2, 2020, and end on January 4.  

The Qualifier and Eliminator matches are scheduled for January 13th and 15th, with a reserve day for every match.

The final is scheduled for January 17, 2020, in Dhaka, with a reserve day in case the match cannot be played on the scheduled date.

The tournament will have a total of 46 matches, with every team playing 12 matches. Every team will play six matches in daylight and six matches under lights.
