‎This year's Games are being organized to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, and the Golden Jubilee of the country.‎

‎Speaking as the chief guest, the Prime Minister said, "My father loved sports, my younger brother was an athlete too. Athletes are ambassadors of the country to the world court. The Games are being organized on two special occasions. I hope the athletes and the concerned authority will be aware of the corona situation. '‎

‎5,300 athletes are participating in the Games in 31 disciplines. The total number of medals in 378 events is 1271.

The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BAA), the organizer of the Games, is looking to spread the event to the whole country.

‎Speaking on the occasion, BAA President and Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed said, "Bangladesh will be incomplete without Bangabandhu's name. We are proud to host these Games on the centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of the country. '‎

Minister of State for Youth and Sports, Zahid Ahsan Russell, said, "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was not only an organizer but also an athlete. Honourable Prime Minister, under your leadership, we are taking our sports forward. '‎
