Commerce ministry takes initiative to keep market stable
Public holidays of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh officers and staff have been cancelled
A high-level committee of the commerce ministry, in coordination with the filed-level administration and law enforcement agencies, is working to keep stable the supply and prices of the essential commodities in the market amid the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, the officials concerned are implementing all necessary measures in this regard during the public holidays to ensure smooth supply of products, said a ministry press release on Sunday.
Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin is supervising the initiative. The committee is also providing all manner of support to the private sector.
Joint Secretary of the commerce ministry Md Abdur Rahman (contact number: 01711 368426), Senior Assistant Secretary Ashraful Rahman (01716 154020) and Assistant Trade Advisor Md Ziaur Rahman (01712 168917) are monitoring the market, and collecting information on imports and exports.
Public holidays of the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) officers and staff have been cancelled.
Meanwhile, the DNCRP is conducting regular market drives along with its regular official activities. The directorate has also opened a control room to provide consumer services during the crisis.

The TCB is continuing its field-level operations as usual. It has also opened a control room (02-55013447) to keep in touch with all matters related to the TCB sales.
