178 traders fined over Tk5.5 lakh for price manipulation

The Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection has fined 178 wholesalers and retailers in the country Tk5,64,500 for price manipulation and not properly maintaining price lists of daily necessities.

Under the supervision of Deputy Director of the directorate Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, the drives were conducted in 94 wholesale and retail markets in the country on Monday.

In the capital, the drive was led by Deputy Director Md Masum Arefin, Deputy Director Bikash Chandra Das, Assistant Director Abdul Jabbar Mondol, and other officers of the directorate.

About the drives, Director General of the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection Babul Kumar Shaha said, "We have tightened our monitoring system across the country, including Dhaka, to keep the commodity markets stable during the Covid-19 and the Ramadan.

"We are taking strict legal actions against any manipulation of prices and product quality both in wholesale and retail markets."

Babul Kumar also asked everyone to keep the vouchers and price lists and display the price lists properly.
