GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.
For the team of our "Sustainability in the Textile and Leather Industries, STILE II", we seek applications for the position of "Environmental Policy and Resource Efficiency Advisor".
Contract Duration: until 30 June 2027

A. Responsibilities
The position holder is responsible for the below tasks:
- Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior
- Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups
- Advise supervisor on all task when implementing GIZ rules and regulation
- Advise supervisor in the field of project's planning, steering and monitoring
- Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager
- Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit
- Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution
In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:
B. Tasks (Main Job Role)
- Planning, supporting and implementing project activities related to strengthening the policy framework on sustainability for export-oriented industries (focus on textile/RMG).
- Planning, supporting and implementing project activities in close cooperation with Governmental counterparts, mainly the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau.
- Advising and assisting the counterparts in preparing and structuring Inter-Ministerial Dialogue and broader stakeholder discussions on topic related to new, amended or planned EU legislation - for example the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulations (ESPR), the Directive on Repair of Goods, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) – and their potential impact on Bangladeshi exporters.
- Identifying potential for policy analysis and implementation of formal and practical ideas related to Chemicals management, Energy and water efficiency, Data transparency, Digital Product Passport, Waste Management – including circular approaches towards recycling (jhut) or others.
- Supporting to coordinate and organise capacity development training, workshop and advisory measures for different target groups.
- Supporting to plan, coordinate and organise capacity development measures for individual (training, workshops) and organizational or framework levels (draft legislative tools, implementation tools) with Governmental counterparts.
- Assisting supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulation.
C. Other Tasks (Specific for Job Role)
The advisor is responsible for
- Identifying the relevant project implementation activities, discussing them with the stakeholders and implementing them.
- Implementing tasks considering with empathy and wisely the roles of advisors, experts and counterparts.
- Supporting to monitor and supervise the activities of eventual international or national consultants
- Preparing briefings for the project counterparts (Government and industry associations)
- Maintaining liaison with broad range of partners and stakeholders
- Supporting the Project Manager and Component Leader with reporting, knowledge management and other relevant activities as and when required
D. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
- Master's degree in related field
Professional experience
- At least 7 years of relevant working experience
- Professional experience in development organization, textile and garment sector and working with Governmental stakeholders
- Experience in moderation or facilitation or training
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills
- Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
- Fluency in English is essential
- Ability to work in an intercultural environment
