Context:
BBC Media Action is the BBC's international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media, and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats that inform and engage audiences around key development issues; and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and rights, health, and resilience.
BBC Media Action is the lead partner in a new international consortium focusing on support for independent media through a project to be known as PRIMED (Protecting Independent Media for Effective Development). The project will work to strengthen independent media to produce trusted public-interest journalism and provide avenues for constructive public debate. The project will involve a range of activities in Bangladesh, as well as in other countries elsewhere in the world.
Overall purpose:
BBC Media Action is looking for a highly motivated, creative, and experienced Digital Media Specialist to draft customised digital strategies (web and social media) for two PRIMED partners: a national online portal and a regional newspaper. The person would also be required to support the development of the capacities and skills required for the proper implementation of said strategies. S/he must have a good understanding of digital platforms (with an emphasis on the web, YouTube and Facebook) and a proven ability in using data analytics to track, evaluate and improve performance in terms of reach, engagement and income generation. The person should also be accustomed to modern tools and technics to create innovative outputs and provide day-to-day training and mentoring to different teams across different platforms.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assess the performance of the webpage and main social media channels of the two PRIMED partners, in terms of reach, engagement and income generation, and identify both opportunities and areas for improvement.

- Work with each media house and with the PRIMED team to formulate, validate and start the implementation of a digital strategy to increase reach, engagement and income generation.
- Prepare and deliver a capacity development plan to support the adequate implementation of each strategy.
- Ensure that safeguarding issues are factored into the design and delivery of training activities, working at all times within BBC Media Action safeguarding policies and processes.
- Any other tasks commensurate with the role as assigned by the line manager.

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action's safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
