Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, George Fernandes awarded India’s second highest civilian honour
The Government of India has awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian honour, posthumously to Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and George Fernandes.
Both Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj were members of BJP, India's ruling party, with Jaitley serving as the Finance Minister and Swaraj as the foreign minister.
Both had died in office.
George Fernandes, a trade unionist, journalist and politician had been a Member of Parliament.
He had previously served in various ministerial portfolios in industry, railways, and defence.
