Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and National Children's Day celebrated in China
Celebations took place in the embassy’s Doel hall and began with the laying of floral wreath at the portrait of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the Bangladeshi ambassador
The Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing observed the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day on Tuesday. The programme was observed following the guideline provided by the Government of China amid the outbreak of the coronavirus.
At the onset of the program, Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Mahbub Uz Zaman hoisted the national flag through the rendition of the national anthem at the embassy premises. A special prayer was offered for the salvation of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the members of his family. The prayer also sought the welfare and progress of the whole nation.
Celebations took place in the embassy's Doel hall and began with the laying of floral wreath at the portrait of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the Bangladeshi ambassador. Thereafter all officials observed a one-minute silence to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.
Messages from the Bangladeshi president, the prime Minister, the foreign minister and the state minister for foreign affairs were read out on the occasion.
Ambassador Mahbub Uz Zaman, in his speech dwelt on the ideals, objectives and visionary leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also recalled his contribution to establishing a hunger and poverty-free state free from exploitation.
He further stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, bearing in mind Bangabandhu dream of "Golden Bengal", has been working to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041.
The ambassador called upon all to work towards the progress and development of the country bearing the ideals of the father of the nation. He added that the visionary foreign policy articulated by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman remains a cardinal principle and directives of the foreign policy of Bangladesh.
Deputy Chief of Mission Masudur Rahman spoke about the visionary and charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Defense Attache Brigadier General SM Mahbubul Alam presented an elaborate historical background to delineate the visionary and invaluable leadership quality of Bangabandhu. He deemed Bangladesh and Bangabandhu as synonymous and termed the historic speech of March 7 by Bangabandhu as is an outstanding document that served as the foundation for the independence movement.
A special documentary on Bangabandhu's life, achievements, and the emergence of Bangladesh was screened while different poetries about the great leader and war of liberation war were recited.

The embassy also arranged an online art competition. The ambassador announced the results and distributed prizes among the winners. He also distributed books based on Bangabandhu's speeches and various literary collectibles on Bangabandhu among the audience.
