Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Robi Axiata have recently signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement infrastructural development plans for a smart city.

Maqsud Hashem, chief town planner of DNCC, and Robi managing director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in the presence of Mayor Md Atiqul Islam at Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan, said a press release. 

Under the agreement, initially, there are plans to set up active network infrastructure in 100 lampposts of DNCC as per the policy of the regulatory body. 

There are also plans to set up digital surveillance systems for the safety of the citizens.

"Other telecom companies should also come forward for the welfare of the city dwellers," said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam. 

He urgedd Robi to offer individuals the required help so that they can pay their taxes at home through automation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, managing director and CEO of Robi, said, "To improve public services, we have no choice but to turn our cities into smart cities. In that sense, we applaud the Northern City Corporation's initiative and are proud to be involved in the initiative to build a smart city. Robi is committed to delivering innovative digital services across the country and we are ready to extend a helping hand in any significant step towards digital progress."

At the signing ceremony DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, General Councilor Md. Mofizur Rahman; Robi Axiata Limited's Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam and Chief Enterprise Business Officer Md Adil Hossain Nobel was present.
