‘We do not need others to tell us how to do our jobs’

If she needs to, she will go beneath the surface and that is her job. No one can accuse her of collecting information inappropriately. Rather, she was establishing our right to know information

Rozina Islam went to the Secretariat to fulfil her official duties. But she was assaulted there by some wicked government officials. Why would she face such torture there? This is unacceptable and we strongly criticise it.

She is an investigative journalist. So she will collect information from different sources, which is completely fine. If she needs to, she will go beneath the surface and that is her job. No one can accuse her of collecting information inappropriately. Rather, she was establishing our right to know information.

We do not need others to tell us how to do our jobs. Rozina Islam was performing her duties and she was assaulted. We want nothing but justice. She should be respectfully discharged as soon as possible and we believe our court will do so considering the evidence and the whole situation.

The writer is the president of Dhaka Reporters Unity.
