Eid day is undeniably one of the most festive days in Bangladesh. On this occasion, most houses are redecorated to welcome guests and set up the perfect ambiance. However, due to the nationwide Covid-19 shutdown, Eid celebrations will be limited. But, to make the best out of the situation, alongside food, you can always grab the things at home and accessorise your dining room to brighten up the day.
Using vases as building blocks
The first step towards decorating a dining table is the centrepiece. Instead of risking stepping out of your home, try making a floral centrepiece with random flowers and leaves you might be able to take from your home or rooftop garden.
Organise the plant bits in a vase to be placed on the centre of your dining table. Fill the vase with water and put a saucer under it to prevent any spill.
When it comes to creating a cosy, considered table for the occasion, layered tablecloths add a fresh look to the dining area. It is suggested to keep elements that complement the other layer, whether it is the colour, texture, or pattern.
Make tried-and-true tablecloths feel fresh again by doubling up, using a larger solid-hued one as a base and a smaller size to top it off. At every guest's place setting, arrange a folded napkin in between the plates so each element stands out.
Pick tableware that does it all
To set a table that is both, full of charm and high functioning, start with a foundation of simple dinner plates and add in artful pieces for flair - opt for botanical salad and side dishes in two colourways.
A long wooden dish on the centre of your table layered with food and florals can make an extremely beautiful serving tray.
Do not clutter with cutlery
Even though Eid food is meant to be eaten with hands, spoons and forks are essential for plating the dishes. Same goes for smaller serving bowls. Instead of having a separate box or holder for spoons on the table, place the spoons in the serving dishes with the food.
For bowls, set them beside the plates of each person or you can always bring them to the table later. Doing so will not only make your table look neatly arranged, it will also keep the table free from clutter.
