Mirror mirror on our walls

These days people not only use mirrors for seeing their reflection, but also as an accessory for decorating homes, enhancing the living, dining and drawing room

Narcissus (from Greek mythology) was famous for his jaw-dropping beauty such that once he saw his reflection on a watery surface, could not remove his eyes from his reflection and died because he could not stop.

In old times, people used pools of dark still water or water collected in a primitive vessel, like Narcissus did on those days.

These days people not only use mirrors for seeing their reflection, but also as an accessory for decorating homes, enhancing the living, dining and drawing room.

When it comes to mirrors as an accessory, Ashley is your go to place. Situated in Gulshan Avenue, the American home decor shop provides their customers with posh decor equipment, especially mirrors.

Wall mirrors usually range within Tk6,000-25,00. The beauties come in all shapes and forms from the circular brass ones to those rounded-top window shaped ones elegantly fitted with a wooden frame.

Some forms of mirror come along with dressing tables and wardrobes ranging from Tk28, 909-173, 440.

If the price range of Ashley is way beyond your budget, then fear not; pay a visit to Panthapath. They have rows of furniture shops ready to help you with your mirror dilemma.

A standard 30 inch by 30 inch mirror along with the wooden frame would cost not more than Tk3,000 with a five-year store warranty. It would be delivered to your cosy home within two days. Delivery charge will cost you around Tk500.

Single dressing tables may cost up to Tk2500-3000 while the doubles ranging between Tk4500-5000 with a ten-year shop warranty.

Another destination for mirror shopping is in New Market. In contrast to Panthapath, here you have the opportunity to customise your mirrors.

Buyers have the option to have a wall mirror with or without the wooden frame. Wooden frames usually tend to cost more than the single glass counts.

When it comes to glass, shoppers have the opportunity to choose between a 3-milli glass, which will cost Tk76 per square foot, and 5-milli glass costing Tk120 per square foot. Fitting and delivery charge altogether may range from Tk1200-1500.

So be it Gulshan, Panthapath or New Market, you can get the fairest mirror of them anytime you want. And surely somewhere Narcissus would feel better.
