The administration has urged the people of the coastal areas to go to shelter centres in Lakshmipur as the Met office authorities issued great danger signal no 10 due to cyclone Amphan.

The announcement with loudspeakers is underway on behalf of the local administrations and Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) since today morning at Ramgati, Kamalnagar, Raipur and Sadar upazilas of the district.

No presence of the people was seen in several shelter centres of Kamalnagar upazila. The residents of the coastal areas are reluctant to go to the centres.

However, Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mobarok Hossain said, around 1,200 people took shelter in different centres of the upazila Tuesday night.

Ramgati Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abdul Momin Gon said, around 4,500 people took shelter in 63 centres of the upazila from Tuesday night to today morning.
