British band 'The Beatles' have sold the most vinyl LPs in the last decade. Their album "Abbey Road" is the highest selling vinyl of the 2010s, confirmed by Nielsen music's report on U.S music sales.
"Abbey Road" was reissued as an extended box set last year to commemorate its 50th anniversary. The album sold a whopping number of 5,58,000 copies in vinyl throughout the decade.
The Beatles is the only artist to have two spots in the top ten. "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band," another of their album, captured the seventh position, with 3, 13,000 units sold.
"Abbey Road" bested Pink Floyd's second place finisher by nearly 200,000 units. Lana Del Rey's born to die is the only original album to make it to the list. The soundtrack from the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" were also issued in 2014, placed third with 3, 67,000 sales. However, all of the songs from this movie were composed in the 60s' and 70s'.
The last decade ended with the 12-th consecutive year for sales resurgence in vinyl format. Vinyl albums account for one in every eight albums bought in the UK. More and more music aficionados are becoming interested in vinyl and cassette format. Even though digital format is easier for its convenience, physical format has a sense of nostalgia attached to it. For the first time, vinyl sales have surpassed CD sales in 2019.
