The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has got two new commissioners.

Two Dhaka University (DU) professors, Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed of the Finance Department and Dr Md Mizanur Rahman of the Accounting and Information Systems Department, joined the BSEC as commissioners on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier the same day, the Ministry of Finance issued two separate circulars announcing their contractual appointment for four years.

Last Sunday, Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, DU, joined the BSEC as its chairman.

The professor and former chairman of the Insurance and Banking Department has been additionally serving the state-run reinsurer Sadharan Bima Corporation as its board chairman.

Right now, the BSEC has one vacant post of commissioner, and ministry sources said Md Abdul Halim, the outgoing secretary of the Ministry of Industries is going to join there at the end of this month—as soon as he avails pre-retirement leave.

Dr Shamsuddin is also serving Janata Bank as its director, and was a senior economist at the World Bank's Dhaka office previously.

Dr Mizan is the executive director of the Accounting for Capital Market Development in Bangladesh.

Prior to joining the Ministry of Industries, Abdul Halim was the Director General of the Governance Innovation Unit at the Prime Minister's office.
