Equity indices at both the stock exchanges inched up as the bank sector witnessed a steep rise during the first hour of the trading session on Thursday.
During the session, DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose by 1.36% or 80 points to 5,965 by 11 am.
DSE turnover, a significant market indicator, jumped by 42% to Tk886.52 crore in the corresponding period.
Northern Insurance secured the apex position on the DSE turnover chart followed by Southeast Bank and IFIC Bank, mostly driven by the investors' interest.
Meanwhile, DSE had 140 gainers against 152 losers, while prices of 56 scrips remained unchanged.
The benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) gained 198 points to 17,268 by 11 am.
