Bangladesh Apparel Youth Leaders Association (BAYLA), an organisation of the young generation apparel leaders, started its journey, officially, on Saturday to combat urgent challenges in the ready-made garments (RMG) sector.
On the occasion, BAYLA formed a 16-member board to run the organisation, where Abrar Hossain Sayem from Sayem Group and Al-Shahriar Ahmed, managing director (MD) of Adzi Trims Ltd, were nominated as BAYLA's president and secretary, respectively.
Abrar Hossain Sayem said, "The unique proposal of this body is to research innovation, bring young generation leaders together and find new opportunities for training, capacity building, and market expansion."
"The team is expected to contribute significantly to the apparel industry of Bangladesh. The association will work closely with leading associations of the industry like BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA, and BGAPMEA," he added.
BAYLA secretary Al-Shahriar Ahmed said, "We unofficially started this journey two years ago and after registering earlier this month, we are now an official body to lead the next generation RMG sector in the country."
"In these challenging and difficult times, we need youth leaders to come to a mutual consent to get Bangladesh an advantage in the fourth industrial revolution, where we must require more proactive approaches within the industry," he continued.
This is solely a non-political association born out of the motivation and determination of youth, where more than 100 members are already enrolled and the pipeline is getting stronger day by day, said sources.
Focusing on innovation and branding, member connection and growth as well as capacity building and market expansion, BAYLA has committed to strengthening the forward and backward linkages of the RMG industry.
The organisation will also work for branding the industry by promoting its innovation and sustainability.
Any leader running an organisation related to apparel manufacturing, aged below 45, can be a member of this association.
The young apparel leaders believe that the required changes can be planned, formulated and implemented through a combination of experience and enthusiasm.
They also urged the senior industry leaders to guide BAYLA with their experience with a hope to work together in the future industry landscape.
