Thousands of garment workers yesterday staged demonstrations in front of their factories and blocked roads in different areas of Dhaka, demanding their arrear salary and Eid bonus.

Industrial Police officials said workers from more than two dozen factories demonstrated in Ashulia, Gazipur, Tongi, Narayanganj and some other places.

Meanwhile, workers of the Princes Apparels, Mother Textiles and Golden Refit locked their factory gates yesterday afternoon for their "committed salary," said Amzad Hossain, superintendent of police of the Industrial Police.

Mother Textiles workers also vandalised some glasses inside the factory, he added.

In Gazipur, workers from the SF Jeans, Apex Holding, Confidence Texwear, Bright Apparels, Hornbil Apparels, Alauddin and Sons, Parl Prince Belly Shema Apparels, Golden Garments, Apex Weaving and Finishing Mills staged demonstrations demanding their salaries and Eid bonus.

The workers of Prudent Fashion, Navana Knit Composite, Satara Group, Titas Knitwear, Han Apparels (known as a Korean factory), Fojiya & Fahim Fashion, Combined Tex, and Yeagi Bangladesh in Ashulia demonstrated for due salaries and bonus.

In Narayanganj, Gram Text Drying and Finishing Garments, Uttara Jute & Fiber Industry and Tamai Knit Fashion workers demonstrated seeking 100 percent salary and bonus.

Workers of Momo Fashion at Joy Pura, Dhamrai were staying inside the factory by closing the main gate demanding their Eid bonus and half salary of the current month, said officials of the Industrial Police (zone 1).

According to the industrial police data, 1,577 garment and textile factories have paid their workers till Monday. Of them, 1,379 are garment factories, and 198 are from the textile sector.
