The Chattogram Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate is going to hold a two-day valued added tax (VAT) fair on Wednesday to increase VAT collection.
The fair will simultaneously be held in Agrabad, Chattola, Chandgao, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Patia, Cox's Bazar and Bandarban under the commissionerate.
The fair is being organised every month to ensure that businessmen do not face any harassment in VAT registration and in filing VAT returns online, VAT Commissioner Mohammad Akbar Hossain spoke at a press conference in the Agrabad VAT office on Tuesday.
"We received a positive response from VAT payers at the fair organised earlier in January," he said.
Besides, 20 booths will also be set up in various prominent shopping centres in the city to provide direct services, the VAT commissioner added.
It will be possible to set up 400 more Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) machines by this month, which will ensure VAT submission in the government treasury transparently.
The first VAT fair in Chattogram was organised between 11 and 12 January when 2,374 returns were submitted, and 284 new registrations were recorded.
Among others, joint commissioners Md Mushfiqur Rahman and Mohammad Selim Sheikh; Deputy Commissioners Md Shahinur Kabir Pavel, Kamonashis, Shushanta Paul, Md Sayed Ahmed Rubel, Muhammad Saiyedul Alam and Md Ahsan Ullah; Assistant Commissioners Anurupa Dev, HM Kabir and SM Sarafat Hossan were present at the conference.
