The National Board of Revenue (NBR) expects to add some 672,000 new taxpayers as it targets to collect over Tk100,000 crore more in taxes than the previous fiscal year.

NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan unveiled the figures while addressing a press briefing in the capital on Wednesday.

Last fiscal year’s overall tax collection scenario was discussed in the briefing.

Mosharraf said last year’s total tax collection was Tk223,892 crore, which was in line with the 10.7 percent growth rate but was around Tk57,000 crore less than the target.

“As a result, the target for fiscal year 2019-20 exceeds Tk100,000 crore in comparison with last year.”

To facilitate tax collection, a total of 213 committees have been formed. The members of these committees include students from different universities.
