Mongla port earns record profit in last FY despite Covid-19
The port also handled 59 thousand 476 Twenty Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containers in the same period
Country's second busiest sea port Mongla has achieved a record profit of TK 115 crore 15 lakh 30 thousand in the just concluded 2019-20 fiscal year (FY) despite Covid-19 pandemic situation .
According to Mogla Port Authority (MPA), the import-export trade did not have much impact on the seaport as a total of 903 vessels have been berthed at the port which handled one crore 10 lakh tons of goods in the fiscal 2019-20.
The port also handled 59 thousand 476 Twenty Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containers in the same period.
The MPA following austerity measures lessened the over expenditures in the on-going Covid-19 pandemic situation that resulted in making a net profit of TK 115 crore 15 lakh 30 thousand after paying salaries and allowances and other development activities cost .
Chairman of MPA Rear Admiral M Shahjahan said the port activities were never stalled since the noble corona virus situation began and the profit of the port in the last financial year has been made with concerted efforts of all and this trend will continue in future .
"The loading and unloading of goods remained operative round the clock but transportation of goods to and from the Monga port was affected in the Covid-19 situation" MPA Chairman added.
