Syed Arif has been elected as the chairman of Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association (BSAA) for two years.
Besides, Syed Iqbal Ali and Riaz Uddin Khan have been elected as senior vice chairman and vice chairman respectively.
The new leadership got the mandate by unanimous vote given by the newly-elected directors at the BSAA office in Agrabad in the Chattogram city on Monday.
Earlier, 24 directors, including 16 in the ordinary category and eight more in the associate category were elected in the BSSA elections-2021-23 held on 4 April at Hotel Agrabad in the city.
Syed Mohammad Arif, the new chairman of BSAA, told The Business Standard that the new council will take office on 28 April for two years. They will form a sub-committee consisting of advisors and directors to bring dynamism to their work.
''We will work together to brighten the image of the country's shipping sector in the international arena.''
According to the Election Commission sources, the winning directors in the ordinary category will elect the chairman and vice-chairman of the association. The vice-chairman will also be selected by the winning directors in the associate category.
In the election, Syed Mohammad Arif, Syed Iqbal Ali Shimul, Osman Gani Chowdhury, Mohammad Shahed Sarwar, Md Azfar Ali, Mamunur Rashid, SM Mahbubur Rahman, Abu Khaled Mohammad Shakil Ahsan, Captain Syed Sohail Hasnat, Mohammad Abdullah Zahir, Md Sajjadur Rahman, Muntasir Rubaiyat, Mohammad Asif Iftekhar Hossain,Mohammad Ziaul Quader, Tanzil Ahmed Ruhullah and SM Enamul Haque were elected as directors in the ordinary category.
Wahid Alam, Khairul Alam Sujan, Mohammad Shafiqul Alam Jewel, Shamsuddin Ahmed Minar, Probir Singh, Md Riaz Uddin Khan, Md Nazrul Islam and Nazmul Haque were elected as directors in the associate category.
