Govt to buy LNG from spot market

The government has decided to buy LNG (liquefied natural gas) from spot market in a bid to tackle increasing demand and system loss.

The decision was made on Wednesday at a meeting of cabinet committee on economic affairs at the secretariat.

However, existing contract-based procedure for buying LNG will remain in place, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters at a briefing.

Meanwhile, Saif Powertec Ltd will continue to handle operations at the Port of Chittagong for the next the six years for Tk 303 crore.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase made the decision at a separate meeting the same day.

“TigerIT Ltd has been removed from the smart card project under the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), after the tech firm was blacklisted by the World Bank over corruption allegation,” the minister further said.

The official title of the project is -- ‘Supply of Personalised Duel Interface Polycarbonate Motor Driving License.’
