UNDP launches scholarship programme to upskill medical students with globally certified courses
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Medical Students' Society (BMSS), has launched the 'Scholarship for Medical Students' initiative, marking Bangladesh's first-ever programme to provide free access to globally certified courses for medical students.
Under the Futurenation platform, co-developed by UNDP and Grameenphone, 300 medical students from 60 medical colleges across the country will be offered specialised courses from prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, and Imperial College London. The scholarship aims to integrate local and global medical education, focusing on skills enhancement in fields like anatomy, physiology, pathology, and public health.
Md. Abdul Quayyum, Head of Communications at UNDP Bangladesh, emphasised the significance of the programme, stating, "This partnership makes global medical education accessible and helps build skilled healthcare professionals. We aim to extend this initiative to reach more students across the country."
Debashis Roy, Private Sector Partnership Specialist and National Project Manager of Futurenation, remarked, "This collaboration is a milestone for Bangladesh's medical community. By offering certified courses from global institutions, we empower future doctors with essential skills to transform the healthcare system."
BMSS Vice President of External Affairs, Iftekhar Ahmed Sakib, noted, "This scholarship is a transformative step for medical education in Bangladesh, catering to the diverse academic interests of students and aligning with their professional aspirations."
Other attendees at the launch included Shirazum Munira, Secretary General of BMSS, and UNDP representatives Nishita Sanaul, Maisha Rubaiyat, Azlafa Nawshaba, and Iqbal Hasan.
Futurenation focuses on empowering youth through education and skill development, providing tailored training programmes to help young individuals excel in today's competitive job market.
