Shakti foundation's mobile clinic revolutionises healthcare access in rural Bangladesh
In an inspiring partnership, Shakti Foundation and Opportunity International Australia are transforming primary healthcare access for women in the most underserved communities across Bangladesh.
With the launch of this Mobile Clinic initiative, we are expecting to make a lasting impact on the lives of disadvantaged women and marginalised populations in rural and under-resourced urban areas. Equipped with essential medical facilities to provide primary healthcare services, these mobile clinics are specifically designed to reach the last mile.
These 11 Mobile Clinics are operational in different locations in Bangladesh, covering Shakti women beneficiaries of 1,28,000 in underserved areas and providing primary healthcare services at their doorsteps. The comprehensive services include in-person, video, telemedicine, maternal healthcare, and first-line treatment for non-communicable diseases. Vaccination, diagnostic tests, essential medications, and hospital referrals ensure every woman receives the care she deserves. This initiative fills critical gaps in healthcare access and aligns with the government's vision of achieving universal health coverage (UHC) for all.
Central to this initiative are Shakti's Women Medical Assistants, who play a pivotal role in breaking down cultural barriers and ensuring that women can receive care in a supportive and private environment. This inclusive approach, aptly dubbed "Health Care for Her, by Her," empowers women and people with disabilities to access healthcare in a safe and nurturing space.
Moreover, these mobile clinics feature an innovative electronic data system that tracks and follows up on patients, creating a seamless treatment pathway. This comprehensive approach enhances the quality of care, guaranteeing continuity in patient treatment and ultimately leading to better health outcomes through meticulous medical record-keeping, historical data storage and referrals.
Mr Imran Ahmed, Deputy Executive Director, said "Shakti Foundation's mobile clinics highlight how innovative solutions can tackle long-standing healthcare challenges in remote areas. These clinics are the first steps towards quality primary healthcare coverage, ensuring that even the most marginalised communities can access the care they deserve."
