Robi and CCC team up to make Chattogram a smart city
Initially, there are plans to set up an active network infrastructure on 100 CCC lampposts
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has announced a collaboration with digital service provider Robi Axiata Limited, to make Chattogram a smart city.
The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard on Tuesday at the port city's Nagar Bhaban in Tiger Pass, reads a press release.
Kazi Mohammad Mozammel Haque, chief executive officer of CCC, and Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, managing director and CEO of Robi, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was present as chief guest at the signing ceremony.
"We signed an MoU with Robi to make Chattogram a smart city. They'll essentially do the work, and we'll look after them," he said.
"Noise pollution, garbage management, and aesthetic enhancement, all need to be upgraded in order to establish a beautiful city. We should move forward in the same way that cities in different parts of the world are becoming smart cities," he added.
Under the agreement, initially there are plans to set up an active network infrastructure on 100 CCC lampposts in compliance with regulatory policy. There are also plans to set up smart city surveillance or digital surveillance systems for the safety of citizens.
Under the Robi Smart City Internet of Things (IoT Technology), there are plans to install smart street lamps, smart waste management, and to reduce noise pollution. There are also plans to set up smart Robi parking facilities for citizens, and Robi shuttle services for students, and digital displays.
"We applaud the initiative of CCC to develop Chittagong as a smart city and expand its civic amenities. There is no alternative to transforming our cities into smart cities to keep up with global technology advancements," said Robi MD, Mahtab.
