BGMEA urges BIDA to resolve complications in extending visas of foreign buyers

Saying that foreign buyers in Bangladesh are currently facing some complications in extending their visas, the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has demanded the issue be resolved.

A BGMEA delegation led by its President Faruque Hassan raised the issue, visiting Bangladesh Executive Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam at his Agargaon office in the capital, on Sunday.

The BGMEA delegation also urged the BIDA chairman to remove the existing obstacles to establishing liaison offices of foreign buyers, and to have foreign workers in Bangladesh vaccinated under the government's vaccination programme, said sources concerned.

On condition of anonymity, a BGMEA leader present at the meeting told The Business Standard, "The BIDA chairman told us that the issue of bringing foreign workers, working in various fields in Bangladesh, under the government's vaccination programme has been resolved."

A statement issued by BGMEA to the media said that the issue of facilitating trade and bringing more foreign investment to Bangladesh, especially in the non-cotton textile sector, was also raised at the meeting.

BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali, Directors Inamul Haq Khan (Bablu), Asif Ibrahim, Asif Ashraf,  Abdullah Hil Rakib, Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan and Mijanur Rahman, with BIDA Executive Members Mohsina Yasmin, Md  Shaifullah Mokbul Murshed, and Avijit Chowdhury among others, were present at the meeting.
