Bank accounts of Taposh, family members frozen
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) today (7 October) directed banks to freeze all accounts of former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
The BFIU also instructed banks to freeze the accounts of Taposh's wife Afrin Taposh and their younger son Fazle Nashwan, according to documents seen by The Business Standard.
A series of account freezes occurred after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on 5 August, following student-led protests. Since the AL government's ouster, the bank accounts of several ministers, MPs, AL leaders and businessmen affiliated with the then ruling party have been frozen.
On 3 August, Taposh was spotted on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight to Singapore. A photo of Taposh on the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight had gone viral on social media.
Later on 6 August, the following day of Awami League government's ouster, a former Dhaka South City Corporation official said Taposh was out of the country for some "urgent work".
