Brahmanbaria Chhatra League leaders have assisted a farmer in Kasba upazila in cutting his ripe paddy.

Mintu Mia, a resident at Naogaon village under Kayampur union parishad, cultivated paddy on his three bighas of land. The paddy got ripe two weeks back and bent toward the ground. But Mintu Mia could not manage labourers for reaping his paddy due to the nationwide shutdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Being stranded, Mintu mia opted to cut the crop on his own along with his wife and four children. Meanwhile, he got to know that Chhatra League leaders are assisting farmers in this regard.

Mintu contacted the joint convener of Kasba upazila Chhatra League Kazi Manik, who assured him of help.

On Tuesday noon, a team of around 60 leaders and activists, led by Manik, went to Mintu Mia's cropland and cut the paddy along with him.

They also carried the crop to Mintu's home.

Mintu said the paddy would get spoiled on land if not harvested now.

Expressing gratitude to them, Mintu said he would have to spend Tk15,000 in labour cost for harvesting the crop if they did not extend their helping hands.

The farmers who cannot harvest paddy amid labour crisis, Chhatra League will help them, said Manik.
