Agriculture Ministry to increase potato price
Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak has said the government will reset the price of potato today.
"We have collected data from the market and will set the price again considering the interest of traders and consumers," the minister said while briefing media at his Secretariat office in the capital today.
"The price will be fixed in between Tk30 to 35," he said further adding, "It is difficult to control the market if the supply is inadequate."
In the meantime, Dhaka's wholesalers have decided to halt selling potatoes in fear of facing raids and fines amid the skyrocketing price of the vegetable, though the country reported record production and adequate potatoes in stock.
Earlier, the government fixed the maximum retail price of potato at Tk 30 per kg as the price of the vegetable rose up to a record high of Tk 50-55 per kg last week.
