India's largest vaccine producer Serum Institute on Tuesday said it would continue to scale up its production of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine and start exporting to other countries by the end of the year.
Earlier this year, India decided not to allow Serum Institute to export of the Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine for several months.
The ban on exports meant that poorer nations probably having to wait a few months before receiving their first shots.
"We can only give the vaccines to the government of India at the moment," Poonawalla said during an interview in January.
He also said that the company also has been barred from selling the vaccine in the private market.
