Workers league President Fazlul Haque dies of Covid-19
The 71-year-old breathed his last at around 4am in a hospital in Dhaka
National Labour League president and veteran freedom fighter Fazlul Haque Montu has died from the novel coronavirus on Friday.
He breathed his last at around 4am undergoing treatment in the capital's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU), according to a press release.
His namaj-e-janaza will be held after Zuhr prayers.
He was 71 years old at the time of his death and left behind wife, one daughter and son and many admirers.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Fazlul Haque.
In a message of condolence, the premier stated, "The contribution of Fazlul Haque Montu to the Liberation War and establishing the rights of the labourers will be remembered."
Information Minister and Awami League's Joint General Secretary Hassan Mahmud has expressed his deep condolence over freedom fighter and workers league President Fazlul Haque's demise.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Fazlul Haq.
In a condolence message, the minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
