Spike in Covid-19 cases after garments factories reopen in Narayanganj
The town’s two sample collection booths for novel coronavirus testing can serve just 40 people per day

The number of novel coronavirus-infected patients in Narayanganj has almost doubled in the last 24 hours – after lockdown restrictions eased and garments factories reopened in the district.
Coordinator of the Narayanganj civil surgeon office, Dr Jahid said 84 patients have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number of such patients in one day.
The two sample collection booths for novel coronavirus testing in Narayanganj town are seeing large crowds form at them every day.
The booths in the town can collect samples from only 40 people per day, but the booths are crowded with ten times more people than that.
Mohammad Imtiaz, civil surgeon of Narayanganj said, "There is no coordination between the sample collection at booths and the district administration."
Jayedul Alam, Super of Narayanganj Police said, "Garment factory owners are operating the factories without adhering to the social distancing rules of the health and safety guidelines."
